Jolicloud – I love you…

December 17, 2010 Leave a comment

It’s been almost two weeks now since I have trashed my Acer Aspire One, and installed Jolicloud, and I am loving it.

This must now be the forth OS I am trying on my netbook to try and see what works best. And Jolicloud is by far ahead in the game.

Install is quick and easy. Synchronisation with other devices are  seamless and quick, application updates work as well as anticipated and overall it is just quick.

One of my long standing issues with the operating systems that I have tried is the hibernation mode. Jolicloud deals with it seamlessly and I can just open the lid and carry on as before.

Not having tried an earlier version, I can’t really comment on the updates from v1.0 to v1.1. But what I can say is that the guys did a fantastic job and I cannot see myself moving away from it anytime soon. The desktop is nice and neat, and I have placed all my most commonly used items on my main screen and the other on another “Desktop”.

Without committing to this, I believe it is linux based, runs Chrome which is actually very quick and responsive. Most of the “Apps” I use is webbased, so the applications I have installed is Chrome “Applications”.

The only thing that is not working so well is Office Live, especially when I try to open an excel document. But I am probably missing a setting somewhere. Will post something in their forums for assistance.

So if you are looking to try an alternative for your netbook, give Jolicloud a try. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. It has not been specially designed for netbooks and works great on older hardware.

Let me know what you think. Chat soon. 🙂
